MIRACULOUS CORP is seeking a talented and experienced Character Designer to join our visual development teams. As a Character Designer, you will be a key pillar in the conception and realization of the characters that will populate the future adventures of Miraculous Ladybug, whether in 2D or 3D. Your mission will be to bring our new heroes, villains, and secondary characters to life, while respecting the unique aesthetic and dynamic spirit of the franchise. Your creativity, your understanding of anatomy, and your ability to tell stories through design will be crucial for the success of our productions.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Concept Development:
- Create innovative and expressive character designs (heroes, villains, civilians, animals, creatures) based on scripts, director/artistic director briefs, and narrative guidelines.
- Explore various design options for silhouette, color palette, and costumes, ensuring harmonious integration into the Miraculous universe.
- Creation of Reference Designs (Turnarounds):
- Produce complete and detailed references for each character: 3/4 views, front, back, profile, key facial expressions, posing, and morphological specificities.
- Design accessories, additional outfits, and necessary variations.
- Anticipate and design character transformation states (heroes/villains), integrating associated symbolism and powers.
- 2D/3D Adaptation:
- Work in close collaboration with 3D modeling teams to ensure the correct interpretation and technical feasibility of your designs.
- Provide clear guidance on topology, volumes, and textures for 3D production.
- Adapt certain designs for specific 2D needs (illustrations, specific scenes, etc.).
- Artistic Consistency:
- Guarantee stylistic consistency of characters across all productions, respecting the existing “art bible.”
- Actively participate in review sessions and integrate constructive feedback from the artistic director and director.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Work synergistically with storyboard, modeling, rigging, animation, and texturing teams.
- Present and articulate your designs clearly and persuasively.
- Time Management:
- Respect established production deadlines and project milestones.
Required profile
- Experience: Significant experience as a Character Designer on animated productions (series, films, specials), ideally in 2D and/or 3D.
- Education: Higher education degree in Applied Arts, Animation, Graphic Design, Fine Arts, or equivalent.
- Technical Skills:
- Excellent command of traditional and digital drawing.
- Strong knowledge of human and animal anatomy, perspective, composition, color, and light.
- Proven ability to design characters with strong personality and animation potential.
- Proficiency in digital creation software (Adobe Photoshop, etc.).
- Ability to adapt to an established graphic style while bringing a personal touch.
- Personal Qualities:
- Overflowing creativity, keen sense of observation, and curiosity.
- Excellent communication skills and team spirit.
- Autonomy, thoroughness, and strong organizational skills.
- Ability to receive and integrate feedback constructively.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- A genuine passion for animation and the Miraculous Ladybug universe is ESSENTIAL!
- Languages: Proficiency in French and/or professional English (written and spoken).

- Experience on projects with hybrid 2D and 3D pipelines.
- Experience in prop or environment design (concept art).
- Ability to visualize characters in motion, anticipating animation needs.
- Knowledge of cultural references and superhero/villain archetypes.
